Creed + Deed

That’s our theme for this year’s missions week at church. Our parent denomination is in the US and every year they send out the posters and theme… and basically we toe the corporate line and use the material they send us. This year the theme was a bit cheesy and sounded like a movie from the late 80s…so Andrew and I persuaded our pastor that we could do something more relevant to Australia and to our congregation. He jumped on board and broadened the scope of the week’s emphasis to incorporate the local community as a mission focus (usually at these things we look purely at overseas mission fields).

Andrew and I put our heads together and came up with Creed + Deed as our theme. In a nutshell this means that we do not separate biblical behaviour from our religious beliefs. They are two distinct parts of the whole and cannot be viewed in isolation. They go hand in hand. We cannot believe in God without doing what he tells us….go and tell everyone the great news! Exhibiting biblical behaviour and showing God’s love in our community, as well as supporting overseas ventures is YOUR business (because we are accountable to each other), it’s MY business (I’m accountable to God) and it’s OUR business as a church (to work together to make it happen).

I’ve created two posters and supporting materials (PPT slides, brochure graphics etc) to support the theme. With the emphasis of our missions focus being shared between overseas missions and the mission field that is our local community, I have reflected these ideas in the poster designs (pictured below), with one covering Australia and the world, and the other showing Canberra and our local suburbs. The posters were printed up at A0 size…they’ll go up in a couple of weeks.

So that’s my Creative Chaos for the week :)
